What most of us are seeking in life - if we’re truly honest with ourselves - is the trifecta of earning a living while having fun, and making an impact. Today’s guests, Bethany Hawkins and Sharoline Galva, co-hosts of the Chatting Over Chowder podcast, have stepped into that magic utopian world. How can we make the impact we know we can in the world? How can we hire our favorite people to work on our team? How can we give ourselves grace while holding ourselves to high standards? We cover all that with lots of laughing in between. If you enjoy this episode, please remember to leave us a rating and review wherever you’re listening to this podcast. Enjoy!

Today’s episode is the live recording of our special International Women’s Day Powerful Conversation Series themed Powerful Ladies for Change. There’s so much going on in our world today and all of it impacts women, so I wanted to bring together a few of the badasses in the Powerful Ladies community who are taking action every day to be the change they wish to see in the world and ask them how they do it, why they do it and how any of us can take actions to change the world. Our amazing panelists include Kristy Dinsmoor of Reevolution Group, Chandra Gore of Conversations with Chan, Carolina Trejos of Pinkafe, and Dr. Sophia Yen of Pandia Health.

One of the most impactful podcasts I recorded in 2021 was episode #129 with Gemi Bertan. I was so impressed and inspired by Gemi as a human and my heart was so inspired by her powerful and thrilling story of her daughter’s adoption in Haiti during a coup that required a helicopter evacuation. Really, you have to go back and listen to this episode. I knew she was someone I would want to have back on the podcast and today I’m honored to have Gemi and her daughter Ili. Ili joined us from Barcelona where she lives and at moments in this episode you’ll hear Gemi translating. It can be nerve wracking enough to be on a podcast, let alone on a podcast that is not in your mouth tongue, so extra cheers to Ili for being a yes to all of that. In this episode, we go back to the adoption story, what it was like transitioning to a new country and family for Ili, how they inspire each other and the challenges they face being pioneers in their own respects.

It’s common for an entrepreneur’s story to begin with how they were pushed into it: a divorce, a layoff, a crisis of some kind that either forced them into creating their business or gave them no other choice. It’s rare that an entrepreneur is pushed into their business and their best life path because of a debilitating, suddenly appearing allergic reaction to heat and therefore the sun, but that’s exactly what happened to today’s guest Carrie Schmitt. Today she’s an amazing artist and it’s clear she’s living her purpose through her work, but that is not how this story begins. This episode is one of the good ones. Enjoy it!

One of the hardest roles to fill on any team is a graphic designer who gets you and your brand. I feel so lucky to have today’s guest, Anna Olinova, on my team as my graphic designer. Not only is she a great artist, she cares and is committed and asks “Why” as much as I do. She’s also a tremendously powerful lady in her life as she’s evolving from freelance graphic designer to art therapist so she can support the social justice causes that matter to her by bringing healing arts to those communities. Get ready as we talk about all things from immigrating to a new country, being different, and even being overwhelmed with how much work there is to do in the world.

Statistics and education are a part of our everyday lives in American culture. What we often don’t think about is how the presentation of education to kids can change their acceptance to or trust in that education. Similarly, we often aren't looking at how ours is being gathered for us to make decisions as a community. Today’s guest, Daphne Littlebear, is taking all of that on for Indigenous and native communities in America. I’m excited for you to hear her journey and to gain a new perspective of what it means to be counted and understood.

One of our missions at Powerful Ladies is to bring Powerful Conversations to the world. On November 19th, 2021, we co-hosted a special live event with Women of Type called “How to Be Creative, Successful and Fabulous”. This event included three amazing female panelists, Devon Blow, Jess Goldsmith and Elizabeth McGarry - all of whom have successful businesses doing what they love as creatives - fashion design, graphic design, art directing and more. The purpose of this conversation is to show everyone that the ‘starving artist’ troupe is a myth. You CAN do what you love and be fabulously successful. Being in business and being an entrepreneur does not have to be boring. In fact being creative is a requirement. Links to handles to connect with all of our amazing panelists can be found in our show notes at thepowerfulladies.com/podcast. There you can also ask questions and leave comments about this episode. I can’t wait to hear what are your favorite takeaways from this special event episode.
